Andromeda (or M31 in the Messier catalogue), is our neighbor galaxy. The galaxy is approximately 2.5 million light years away from us and therefore the closest galaxy to our home galaxy, the milky way. Andromeda is bigger than our own galaxy (150.000 – 200.000 light years in diameter, the milky way is approximately 100.000 – 120.000 light years in diameter). Andromeda contains 1.000 billion stars (300 billion stars are contained in the milky way).
